Dubai is the easiest first foreign trip for many Indian families. Flights from most big Indian cities take about 3 to 4 hours, the visa is applied online, and Indian vegetarian food is everywhere. In one short holiday you get the world's tallest building, golden desert dunes, sparkling malls and old souks full of gold and spices.

Dress modestly at mosques and in traditional areas, and check the Ramadan dates before you fix your trip.

- November-March (best): warm days and cool evenings. Global Village and the Miracle Garden are open (roughly October/November to April/May). This is peak season, so book early for Diwali, Christmas and New Year.
- October and April: warm but manageable. Good shoulder months.
- May-September: very hot, often above 40°C. Plan indoor sightseeing and keep the desert safari and walks for the evening. Hotels often run summer deals.
- Ramadan: dates change every year. Sightseeing goes on, with some changes in timings.

How to reachकैसे पहुँचें
- By air: direct flights to Dubai from many Indian cities, usually about 3 to 4 hours. Some trips fly into Abu Dhabi or Sharjah instead, both a drive away from Dubai.
- Getting around Dubai: the Dubai Metro is clean and easy for city sights, and taxis and ride apps are everywhere. A private car with driver suits families with kids or seniors.
- Abu Dhabi: about 1.5 to 2 hours by road from Dubai. Do it as a full-day trip by private car or shared tour.
- Time difference: UAE time is 1.5 hours behind India.

The world's tallest building. Go up to the observation decks for huge views; sunset slots are the most popular, so book ahead. Below it, Dubai Mall has a giant aquarium, endless shops and food courts. An afternoon drive into the orange dunes, usually with dune bashing in a 4x4, a camel ride, sandboarding and a desert camp with a buffet dinner and live shows. Vegetarian food is normally available. Dubai Marina is a waterfront of tall towers, yachts and cafes. The classic evening plan is a dinner dhow cruise: a wooden boat with a buffet and music, gliding past the lit-up skyline. A Creek dhow cruise in old Dubai is another good option. A giant golden picture frame about 150 metres tall in Zabeel Park. Ride up to the top bridge, which has glass floor panels: one side shows old Dubai, the other the new skyline. A huge open-air festival park, open roughly October/November to April/May. Pavilions from many countries, including India, sell food, handicrafts and souvenirs, with stage shows, rides and fireworks on some nights. Go in the evening and plan at least 3 to 4 hours. A garden with millions of flowers shaped into hearts, arches, castles and even a full-size plane. It opens in the cooler months, roughly October/November to April/May, and is best in the morning or late afternoon. See Dubai as it was before the skyscrapers. Walk the lanes of Al Fahidi, cross Dubai Creek on a traditional abra boat, and browse the Gold Souk and Spice Souk in Deira. - Tourist visa: most Indian passport holders need a UAE tourist visa arranged before travel, usually for 30 or 60 days. It is applied online with a passport copy and a photo. Your travel planner can apply for you.
- Visa on arrival: Indians who hold certain valid visas, residence permits or a green card (for example USA, EU, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore or South Korea) may get a visa on arrival. UK visas and residence permits no longer count for this. Check before you travel.
- Carry with you: a passport valid for at least 6 months, your return ticket and your hotel booking.
- Keep printed and phone copies of your visa, tickets and hotel booking.

- The local currency is the UAE dirham. Cards work almost everywhere; keep some cash for souks, abra rides and small shops. Very easy. Dubai has a large Indian community, so pure vegetarian restaurants and South Indian, Gujarati and Punjabi food are everywhere, especially in Bur Dubai and Karama. Mall food courts have Indian counters too. Desert safari camps and dhow cruises usually serve vegetarian dishes. For Jain food, tell your hotel or restaurant in advance.

Ramadan is the holy month of fasting, and its dates move about 10 to 11 days earlier each year. As a mark of respect, avoid eating, drinking or smoking in public during the day. Hotels and many restaurants still serve food. Malls stay open late, and the evenings after iftar are festive. Some attraction timings change, so check before you go.
